Fiberglass Rebar: Engineered for Strength, Built to Last

Fiberglass rebar, also known as GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) rebar, offers a powerful alternative to traditional steel reinforcement. Designed for durability and long-term performance, it is naturally non-corrosive, making it ideal for harsh environments such as marine structures, chemically exposed concrete elements, and infrastructure where longevity is critical. Historically, FRP reinforcement found its niche in specialized applications – particularly where corrosion resistance was paramount, such as in bridges, coastal installations, and wastewater facilities. Today, however, its benefits have led to far broader adoption. GFRP rebar is now
widely used in flatwork and slab-on-ground reinforcement, where its lightweight nature and ease of handling dramatically reduce labor time and installation effort. At just a quarter of the weight of steel, it enhances jobsite efficiency and safety while offering exceptional tensile strength and lifecycle value – without compromising structural integrity or design flexibility.

The growing adoption of GFRP rebar is further supported by a robust foundation of codes and standards. ASTM has established specifications – ASTM D7957 (first published in 2017, latest revision D7957/D7957M-22) for solid round GFRP bars, and ASTM D8505/D8505M-23 for both glass and basalt FRP bars. In 2022, ACI published ACI CODE-440.11-22, providing building code requirements for structural concrete reinforced with GFRP bars. This landmark code has been incorporated into the latest editions of the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), completing the regulatory framework and enabling confident, code-compliant design and construction.

RCM Ultra GFRP: Industry-Leading Quality by Design

At RCM, we don’t just manufacture fiberglass rebar – we engineer a superior solution. Our Ultra GFRP rebars are known for their exceptional mechanical and material performance, achieved through a no-compromise approach to sourcing and production. We exclusively use ECR glass, also known as boron-free glass, ensuring long-term resistance to alkalis and corrosive environments. Every bar is bonded with top-tier epoxy resin systems – never polyester. Even in flatwork applications, we refuse to compromise with lower-grade materials,
because polyester-based resins simply don’t meet our performance or longevity standards.

Our production process is governed by a strict quality control system, with routine quality assurance testing across every batch. This ensures that every Ultra GFRP bar meets or exceeds all ACI and ASTM specifications, consistently delivering structural reliability and code compliance. And because jobsite safety matters, RCM bars are engineered to be splinter-free, offering a cleaner, safer handling experience – something many competing FRP bars simply don’t offer. From infrastructure to industrial flooring, Ultra GFRP represents the next generation
of reinforcement – smarter, stronger, and built for the future.
